Another famous and favourite resort, with many historical buildings; Romanesque, Renaissance and Baroque architecture. An interesting and endearing town, reportedly one of the most romantic and picturesque cities on the Adriatic coast.

Walk through the narrow, winding and cobbled streets to find shops selling local landscape paintings, jewellery, home made olive oil, wine and Istria’s finest gourmet jewel; truffles.

 

The church of St Euphemia sits proudly on the edge of the large piazza where you can sit and take in the views over the bustling harbour with its small fishing boats and luxury yachts. You will be amazed by the significant cultural and historical heritage in the tiny winding passageways, steep stair cases and the original stone pavements of the town together with the monuments, museums, galleries and exhibitions.

The abundance of restaurants, cafes and bars around the piazza will sate every appetite, however walk a few hundred yards in any direction, down the winding streets, and you’ll find the tiny and amazing reasonably priced restaurants overlooking the clear blue seas –  it’s romantic, picturesque and it’s like finding your own little secret.

From here you can hop on a boat to the nearby Red Island, made up of two small Islands, St Andrew’s and Maškin, and see over 180 plants from around the world. Visit the remains of the central part of the Benedictine church (6th century) which was later renovated by the Franciscans (15th century) and today houses a small nautical museum.

There is a vast range of sporting activities both on land and in the sea to keep everyone entertained or you might just want to wander around and find your own secluded beach on which to sunbathe or swim in the warm blue seas.
